EMEKA NWAGBARA 

Emeka Nwagbara though a graduate of accounting which has taken him on a career journey through the Oil and Gas industry, Banking, and the Information Technology industry, his passion for the Art was never extinguished.  He continued to draw and paint in his private time. A product of Government College Umuahia, Baptist High School - Port Harcourt, University of Port Harcourt and Ogun State University.

Emeka’s professional career took off in 2005 when he gave up paid employment as a Business Development Manager to pursue his long time aspiration as a studio Artist. Mostly self taught, his Art was given a boost during his Atelier (Studio) practice and mentorship under the guidance of Mr. Edosa Ogiugo, Mr. Abiodun Olaku and the Universal Studios of Art where he still practices as a Professional Artist and mentors other young professionals to be.

Nwagbara  is a figurative  composer, drawing and painting eveyday people:  the  human  structure,  movement, action  and  expression inspires his creative being. Noticably, his  works are not done without his favourite  hues  of  purple. The unmistaking influence of Edosa's bright colours and bold strokes are evident in some of his paintings.

Nwagbara  has  been  involved  in  many  group  exhibitions,  and most recently in the Terra Kulture /Mydrim Gallery, Lagos Art Auction 2016.

Emeka has also been engaged in some high profile art projects/commissions which include Portrait Commissions of some State Governors and Bank Chief Executives, Art Projects with State Governments and Corporate Clientele but not limited to the following – Ondo State Government, Lagos State Government / Lagos State Canival, Osun State Government, UNICEF, Nestle Foods, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA),  etc.

He is  also a member of the Universal Studios of Art and his works are highly sort after in the area of Illustration, Portraiture, market scenes and general composition with particular interest in oils, Pastel, Pencil and Charcoal sketches.


Artist Statement:
I have never been a proponent of being consumed in a particular style. I love good art works and desire to continually produce same, but most especially, the human figure fascinates me a great deal. Body movement, facial expression and most especially the essence of our being.
